View Full Version : A Suggestion

Despite the large number of hits some posts are getting very few actually get any form of reply. Obviously, this stems from the number of surfers that stop by, lurk around for a bit, and then move on. Baring this in mind, I would like to make the following suggestion, lets introduce a Private Members Area. Make it exclusive to registered users that post regularly and who have made contact with other members.
Since only users with a proven track record will be admitted; members can rest assured that their messages will only be read by people with a genuine interest and who are more likely to reply.
This will encourage more people to make full use of the site while cutting down on the number of time wasters that genuine members have to contend with.
What do you think?

Interesting idea
But my concern would be that we would get less posts, this wouldnt make a difference to people who are in the members area, but would make any new members not bother posting.
Unfortunatly the nature of a board is that it needs posts, the more posts the better even if the posts are not what your looking for. A busy board brings people back and that gets more people posting which inturn brings people back.
But as you guys know, I do this board for fun, so Im open to suggestions, its not quite a democracy (as I pay the bills) but Im certainly willing to be told how to improve things
My only regular experience of bb's has been on voyeurweb. As some of you may know, they used to have several bb's covering various topics, and still do, but also used to have an 'Insiders Lounge' for regulars who knew each other better.
It was a bit cliquey, but on the other hand, you felt like you belonged to a 'community'. Maybe you could add something like that here?

Ok Im listening and who would decide who was regular enough, me, or an automatic system when people have posted enough, recomendations?
You also have to take into account that theres only a certain amount of time I can dedicate here, now dont take that, that Im not bothered, I am very much so, but I also have full time jobs etc and dont want a system that takes to much time for me

Im not so sure, I think many of the registered members are lurkers, they view the posts every day, but dont post, maybe another board wouldnt help that? Maybe it would make it worse?

One of the big problems ive always found is that a lot of people read the boards during the day, maybe at work.
Its a lot easier to read the boards and minimise them if someone walks along than it is to post on them.
I work shifts and half the time im on days and can only read posts really during the day.
Luckily im off shift for the next 8 days so can read and post at my leisure :)

And what about the members who have more than one persona - you don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to work out who they are! - Will they get
two memberships to to the Members area?

I can't see how it could make it worse. To gain access to the private area members would be required to post a number of messages. This would actively encourage people to post, thereby turning lurkers into posters.
